The Independent diver course provides the skills and concepts required to safely and comfortably dive without a designated dive buddy, or with an inexperienced buddy. You will learn about self-reliance, proper equipment maintenance, and the special considerations and rescue techniques required to dive independently.


What you will learn:

  • Skills for self-reliance and independence

  • Potential risks of diving alone

  • The value of equipment redundancy

  • Necessary back-up gear

Prerequisites:

Number of dives: 3.

What’s Included?

  • Academics, Exam & Pool session

  • Open water certification dives

  • Digital certification card in the SSI App

  • Independent diving digital kit ($50).

 

Required materials:

  • Fully-Redundant Air Supply System with full regulator and minimum gas supply of 13cuft@3000psi

  • Surface Marker Buoy + Back-Up

  • Spare Mask

  • Underwater Light + Back-Up

  • Dive Computer + Back-Up

  • Dive Knife + Back-Up

  • Reel or Finger Spool + Back-Up

Important note:

One of the documents required for this course is the Medical Statement. Depending on your answers to the questionnaire a physician’s release might be required prior to you getting in the water. It is important to read the form ahead of time so you have plenty of time to set a physician’s appointment if necessary. Click HERE to download the form.

Don’t worry if you still are unsure whether a signature is required for your form or not, once you sign the course’s paperwork we will contact you about it if needed. Please remember that the physician’s release must be signed by a DO or MD only - signatures from PA-C, NP, etc. cannot be accepted.
